The typical master’s in marketing management follows the master of science track. Graduates with such a degree will find themselves properly suited for helping their firm or organization create efficient, cost-effective business strategy for delivering the message of a particular product or the organization itself. In some cases – such as at a large consumer products company – marketing managers may serve as the overall manager of their assigned products, or the department that produces those products. In all, marketing managers will be expected to properly analyze how timing and message strength affects how information will be received by the public. Job growth in the marketing, advertising, promotions, and public relations fields is expected to occur at a rate of 13 percent through 2018, considered to be about as fast as average. Similar to most highly-coveted, highly-rewarding managerial jobs, competition for openings will be strong as well.

Requirements for Earning this Degree

Course curriculum for the typical master of science in marketing management includes such offerings as organizational management and leadership, managing projects in organizations, strategic planning and policy, customer relationship management, organizational communication, conflict resolution and negotiation, and market research methodology. Students are typically expected to have obtained a bachelor’s degree prior to admission, and completion of the graduate record examination (GRE) is also a common requirement.
