Master’s in Leadership & Management

If the manager’s job is the plan and direct employees to tasks, it is the leader’s job to motivate and encourage employees to work in the best interest of the company or organization. The most successful managers are able to marry both the key concepts of management and leadership in their day-to-day career duties.

Career Opportunities with this Degree

In addition to the large number of direct management advanced degree programs available, a wide array of master’s in leadership and management degrees also exist. Some follow under the master of arts heading (MA in nonprofit management and leadership, MA in management and leadership, MA in organizational leadership, and MA in public policy with a concentration in public management leadership), while others are part of the master of science offerings (MS in organizational leadership, MS in leadership with a concentration in organizational management, MS in strategic leadership, MS in leadership with a concentration in human resources leadership).

Jobs & Salaries with This Degree

While the nature of each career path in general will determine job availability and salaries, more than a few potential job opportunities are expected to rise notably over the next decade or so. These include human resources, training and labor relations managers and administrative services managers – both professions that deal heavily with the balance between management tasks, goal setting, and motivational needs of employees. Specifically, the workforce of administrative services managers is expected to grow by upwards of 12 percent – with median annual wages approaching $75,000 – in the 10 years leading up to 2018; human resource managers could see growth up to 22 percent, and wages approaching a median of $90,000 annually, over the same time period.

Requirements for Earning this Degree

Coursework in organizational behavior, executive leadership and management, legal issues in business, corporate responsibility, managerial finance, and strategic marketing management are likely to be available across any of the available master’s in leadership and management programs.
